Do they get the big egos because they land these laughable jobs or is the big ego a requirement for the gig in the first place?

Good! The little girl journalist is a paid liar for hire she’s working for a PR firm. There’s two reasons that prostitution is the oldest profession, obviously the biological urge, but also a second reason, we all have to whore ourselves to get by in this world. A self-serving, vane, 33-year-old sycophant to power beaming with ambition demonstrates the second dynamic wherein prostitution is the progenitor, “you gotta serve somebody” ( Bob Dylan).

Never ceases to amaze me what brazen liars these PR wankers can be.. thrilled and delighted to see you lay her out in lavender... it's the perfect feel good story a real journalist outs a rat!

Michael,

One could not be faulted for growing increasingly concerned about you. You are clearly taking your duties much too seriously! One might actually think you believe journalists have a higher calling then simply PR aides or shoe-shiners. And to think that all you have to show for this sorry affair is a semi-raging case of COVID. Get well quickly!

Anyway, yet another brilliant piece on the 'fakery' that is today's journalism. Keep it up, old boy.

Love your take on things....

I recommend blaming Russia when bad stuff happens but catching covid from a Russian at a NATO conference would be a bit of a long shot.

What a fun read. Everybody knows this type of person, and most try to avoid them. Hack probably is even fitting.

"As the UK spy chief from 1999-2004, Dearlove presided over the promulgation of the notorious Dodgy Dossier ... Apparently this minor historical fact doesn’t trouble the devoted “misinformation” combatant Julia Macfarlane though, as she’s eagerly welcomed Dearlove as a valued colleague."

OUCH!

I remember once having a conversation with someone on geopolitics and the person smugly asked me if I had a degree in political science or some other reputable university certification, suggesting it was necessary to be competent on the subject. I just responded by reminding them that Tony Blair, George Bush, Barrack Obama all have such university "degrees" and that he needed a better standard for assessing the competence of a person or argument...

Sir Richard Dearlove was also one of the key figures who vouched for the 2016 Russia "dirty dossier" put together by his former underling and apprentice, Christopher Steele. The idea that someone is going to raise the specter of "credibility" and then do a show with one of the former top heads of the "Five Eyes" octopus is a beautiful proof of how fake all these people are. So fake.

On a deeper level, we can go back to Plato's discussion of Timocrats, Democrats, and Tyrants in the Republic. The Timocrats pride themselves on honor and at least striving for some degree of virtue. The Democrats and the fake Timocrats are those who have no interest whatsoever in Truth, Beauty, Goodness, but go to extreme lengths to "imitate" (Plato's mimesis) those things that allow them to appear to be striving after Beauty, Truth, and Goodness. The evil rests in the fact that they have no interest in attaining these things at all, and they are too lazy, and so they prefer to skip steps and not have to pursue "the real thing." Instead, they dedicate all their time to figuring out how to imitate (mimesis) those things that they believe will allow them to gain more power.

They are Borgs.

These people only try to assimilate those things considered to be Goodness, Truth, and Beauty to the degree such efforts will help them assimilate their enemies, and ultimately enslave them. Same goes with the transhumanist folks.

That is real evil, as opposed to the fake Hollywood stuff.

Keep pointing out the gov, party and PR ties of journalists. It’s important and there’s no more blatantly dishonest “journalist” out there than Bertrand. Drop the Covid schtick in this piece. I’m sure it was intended to come off as light-hearted, but it reads like unserious drama that undermines the legitimate complaint.

That look ... that smugness ... that moral superiority. Julia Macfarlane looks and sounds like the perfect protagonist for a movie on why today's journalism is so awful.

Dude. I dig your writing and balanced view on things. But I LOVE this lambasting! I am certain after years of participation trophies these reporters expect to be in their 30 under 30 lists, and are happy measuring success by anything other than true journalism as that might be hard work and force people like her to get her hands dirty. On top of that, what if people from whom she seeks acceptance and she in turn wishes to grant her ‘bona fides’ pressed the thumbs down button or whatever they do in social media. Her work is on the surface, she would never dream of digging into a story and giving balance, it might upset the orthodoxy she has come to KNOW and believe, it might require her to be….objective. Life is easier for her to shout ‘go away troll’ and hurl insults. If they are afraid of competition that should tell you all you need to know.

Not to worry, Michael: Julia Macfarlane and her ilk are to journalism what racquetball is to baseball, what college fight songs are to jazz. Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery from the pandemic of the vaccinated...

‘Karen’ MacFarlane sounds odious, insecure & neurotic. That said, I haven’t watched the broadcast ‘alphabet’ networks in years - perhaps even several decades.

Hearing your NATA Summit encounters by itself has been worth the price of admission to your substack for several months. Heck, if you could be cloned to be in two places at once, I'd buy that, too. Thanks!
