I’m abroad on what’s sometimes referred to as “holiday” for a short respite from the social media / posting cycle. While my brain is sadly wired such that it’s impossible to fully detach, I would say I’ve been >90% detached from the trials and tribulations of online warfare since departing. Luckily for you, this will enhance the power of my takes upon return. I have a particularly sizzling one coming next week. Also plan to do some more reporting on what’s looking like a brutal wave of summer homicides… and other light fare. So thanks for supporting this Substack, enjoy Memorial Day etc. if you’re observant, and regular programming will resume roughly a week from now.
Good for you. I feel social media has become too prevalent in our daily routines. I am going to log off also for a while and attend to my wonderful life in this wonderful USA.
Dude, do yourself a favor and during your respite get COMPLETELY OFF of social media like FB (if you're on there), Twitter, IG and all the rest. I did that a few weeks into the pandemic and it did wonders for my anxiety and general feeling of well being. I made the mistake of getting back on about halfway through and immediately my sleep quality suffered, I spent hours poring over meaningless bullshit and peoples' arguments, and in some cases participating in them myself. It's a total waste of time. Trust me, stick to Substack writing and maybe a few Tweets here and there, but the rest of it is unhealthy AF.
"I was being really cynical, about my Faith in the Public. And that's, in part, because I was doing Advocacy, spending a lot of time on Social Media, and that can depress the FK out of you."
Enjoy your vacation. You deserve it.
Enjoy your time off. Looking forward to your refreshed sizzling takes. They bring me immense joy.

You know as well as we all do, that we can't do this 24/7, it's not healthy.
I'm in awe that you can maintain your sanity even if you took breaks every other day.
It's not just the random noise inherent in human communications. It's that many of your detractors are deliberately trying to get under your skin.
Staying centered admit the chaos & intentional attacks, is a strength that many of us don't have.
Enjoy your holiday!
Good for you, Enjoy the time off, MT
